Background

Sustainable Building Services (UK) Ltd is an industry leader in residential decarbonisation, energy efficiency and whole-house retrofit. Specialising particularly within the social housing space, the team approached us to develop a partnership that would raise awareness of its expertise, level of compliance and demonstrate the knowledge of its team across the media, in line with the allocation of Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave 2 funding.  

Approach

A strategic plan was developed to mix proactive and reactive content, championing thought leadership and in-depth commentary on delivering social housing decarbonisation work at scale – taking the core message beyond simple project delivery.   

Excellent relationships were established with key media publications through providing exclusive content, interviews with chairman Derek Horrocks, and providing quick turnaround commentary on emerging news items.   

Collaboration with SBS’ clients was key to showcasing the high quality and compliance levels provided by the team, as well as resident engagement that takes place throughout work delivery. Meanwhile, advice pieces were featured in consumer titles to help educate the wider public on installing their own energy efficiency measures. We also supported the team with the production of website content, along with the development of an internal staff newsletter – and video production to support business aims. 

Results

In the first year of working together, our results showed great success on the core aim of raising awareness of the business and its experts. SBS and its key spokespeople have been perfectly positioned as the go-to experts on delivering social housing decarbonisation, particularly for editors at the likes of Construction News.  

The 67 pieces of coverage achieved have generated 8.1m audience reach, with more than half of media pieces including backlinks, driving traffic back to the new SBS website.   

Our work has also expanded to support the National Home Decarbonisation Group, of which SBS is a founding member.
